What is the 80/20 Rule?
Answer
The 80/20 Rule means that 80% of your paper/discussion post must be your own intellectual property and 20% can be paraphrased or quoted information that you cite (using APA citation style).
If more than 20% of your paper or discussion post is someone else’s intellectual property, you are in violation of the 80/20 rule.
If you neglect to cite any of your paraphrasing or quotations, you will be reported for plagiarism (claiming someone else’s work/intellectual property as your own) even if it was unintentional.
This is standard academic practice. Professors reserve the right to the change the limits.
